Loan modifications can provide much needed relief for individuals facing foreclosure. However, homeowners must also beware of the growing number of loan modification scams that prey on consumers. 1. Making Home Affordable Program

 

MakingHomeAffordable.gov is a website provided by the Obama Administration's Making Home Affordable Program (MHAP). The site provides informational resources, steps to request a loan modification, and news about the Federal government's programs to assist consumers with the Foreclosure crisis.

 

2. State of California Department of Justice - Office of the Attorney General

 

The Office of the Attorney General has set-up a website with information and resources for individuals interested in a loan modification. The site also provides a hotline for reporting complaints of fraud.

 

3. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

 

HUD has developed an interactive map that allows users to locate government-approved housing counseling agencies.

 

4. Loam Modification Scam Alert

 

LoanScamAlert.org provides information on how to identify loan modification scams, how to report scams, and access to downloadable resources.
